After narrowly missing out on a tournament championship over the weekend, the Sullivan boys tennis team returned to domination on the court on Tuesday.

The Arrows remained perfect in Western Indiana Conference play (3-0) and improved to 7-4 overall on the season with a 5-0 blanking of visiting West Vigo.

Senior Houston Ferree improved to 10-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 1 singles court.

Drew Baker didn’t have much trouble at No. 2 singles, coasting to a 6-1, 6-2 win while sophomore Levi Chickadaunce didn’t have any trouble at the No. 3 spot with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win.

The match of the night came at the No. 2 doubles position. Sam Couch and Spencer Hanks rallied from losing the first set to seal the 5-0 win for the team with a third-set tiebreaker win.

After dropping the opening set 6-4, the Sullivan tandem bounced back for a 6-3 win in the second before winning in thrilling fashion in the tiebreaker, 11-9.

At the No. 1 tandem spot, Jayden Scott and Carter Mischler won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Sullivan coach Wes Kirk mentioned he was pleased with the way both of his doubles’ teams performed on Tuesday.

“Our singles players got control of their matches early and closed things out without much trouble,” the veteran coach said. “We were tested in both doubles matches, but they pulled through to complete the 5-0 win. I particularly liked how our doubles’ teams returned serves and their selection of shots during the match.”

Sullivan also swept all six junior varsity spots.

Hunter Pinkston, Andrew Jackson, Jaxon Zollman, Wyatt Epling, Zane Abbott and Dane Monroe all won in singles.

“Depth is the magic word for tennis teams,” Kirks said. “Deep teams have the best chance to win on any given day and we are getting solid play out of numerous players on both varsity and the junior varsity level.”

Sullivan (7-4) plays host to White River Valley on Wednesday.
