Each week PressBox812 Sports will highlight significant accomplishments from local athletes. 

 

From the list of nominees, one winner for boys and one winner for girls will be announced as Athletes of the Week. A third weekly winner will be awarded in the form of a staff selection if deemed necessary.

 

Athletes may be nominated multiple times, but can only win once during the regular season and once more for any post-season accomplishments.

The following are nominees for the past week:

 

 

BOYS

 

AIDEN BARBER — Was the first Shakamak boys cross country runner to cross the finish line at the South Knox Invitational. In a field of over 200 runners, the Shakamak sophomore placed 30th overall and came within four seconds of a personal-best time. 

 

SAM COUCH/SPENCER HANKS — The Sullivan boys tennis team’s No. 2 doubles team broke their own school record for most wins in a single season with their win against North Daviess. The duo headed into the final week of the regular season with a 14-2 record as a duo on the season. 

 

ELI ELKINS — The North Knox sophomore hauled in four passes including a 28-yard touchdown pass in the Warriors’ win over North Central.

 

CASH MURDOCK — The Sullivan junior soccer player scored a pair of goals against Bloomfield and Greencastle and assisted on two others.

 

DEVIN PAVEY — Scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and passed for another to help the Dugger Union 8-Man Football Team their first win of the season.

 

 

GIRLS

 

LANIE DONNAR — The Sullivan sophomore golfer recorded a personal-best round of 97 during the IHSAA girls golf sectional. The final match of the season marked the first time Donnar had carded an 18-hole score in the double digits.

 

BRYLEE FAULK — The Shakamak volleyball start continued her impressive sophomore season recording a trio of double-doubles. In three weekday matches, the undersized outside hitter put away a total of 38 hits and recorded 52 digs.

 

ABBY NOLAND — The North Knox sophomore posted a career-low round of 90 during the IHSAA girls golf sectional. Noland also recorded a 9-hole personal-best score of 43 on the front nine during the sectional.

 

KAMBRIC RODE — The North Knox sophomore recorded her first career hat trick with three goals in the Lady Warriors 9-0 win over Shoals.

 

KENSLEY WILTERMOOD — The Sullivan junior volleyball player racked up a total of 73 digs to go along with serving up nine aces during the week. The Lady Arrow defensive specialist prevented 31 shots from hitting the court in the Arrows win over Vincennes Rivet.
