Each week PressBox812 Sports will highlight significant accomplishments from local athletes. 

 

From the list of nominees, one winner for boys and one winner for girls will be announced as Athletes of the Week.

The following are nominees for the past week:

 

 

BOYS

 

NICK BROOKS — Running on his home course, the Sullivan sophomore earned his first career blue ribbon in a dual meet against North Knox. 

 

SAWYER COX — The North Central freshman hauled in three catches for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the T-Birds’ first win of the season Friday night. Cox also came up with a safety on defense.

 

LEO MILLER — The Shakamak freshman recorded a Top-10 finish at the Edgewood Mustang Invite early in the week which featured 94 runners. Miller capped his impressive week with a 16th-place finish at the State Preview Meet in the field of 145 runners. 

 

CASH MURDOCK — The Sullivan junior found the back of the net twice and recorded an assist in the Arrows 6-2 win over Owen Valley on the pitch.

 

LANDYN TRYON — The North Central senior rushed for a career-high 131 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the T-Birds’ win over Irvington Prep. 

 

 

GIRLS

 

EVA CLAYCOMB — The North Knox freshman cross country runner earned her second career win in helping the Lady Warriors to a dual win at Sullivan.

 

LANIE DONNAR — The Sullivan sophomore earned medalist honors for the second time on the season in the Arrows’ win over Owen Valley. Donnar also carded a career-low score in the meet.

 

JAVEN MILLER — The North Knox senior set a career-high with 10 blocks in helping the Lady Warriors to a non-conference win against Eastern Greene.

 

JAYLA PHILLIPS — The Sullivan junior recorded her first career hat trick in leading the Lady Arrows’ soccer team to a 9-0 win against South Vermillion. Phillips scored the first three goals of the match in helping the Arrows to their first win of the season.

 

ELAYNI STONE — The Shakamak senior came up with a pair of Top-20 finishes at two cross country invites. In a field of 83 runners, Stone finished 17th at the Edgewood Mustang Invite before placing 20th in the field of 105 at the State Preview Meet at LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
