SULLIVAN 7, Terre Haute South 6: For the second straight year the Arrows and Braves played to a 1-run contest. And for the second straight year, the Lady Arrows came out on top. Jaylynn Hobbs blasted a 2-run home in part of a 5-run third inning which helped the Arrows overcome an early 3-0 deficit.

The longball from Hobbs broke a 3-all tie. The junior slugger added an RBI double the next inning as Sullivan carried a 7-3 lead into the fifth.

South tallied three runs in the home half of the fifth but could not pull even.

Kensley Wiltermood and Addie Fosdick teamed up for a 4-6-3 double play in the seventh to end another Braves rally.

Rachel Eslinger and Wiltermood added a pair of singles at the plate in part of the Arrows’ 9-hit attack. Eslinger scored twice, as did sophomore catcher Cacey Shorter.

Mylee Vandender went the distance inside the circle, scattering seven hits and fanned five batters in the win.

Earlier in the week, Sullivan split a pair of Western Indiana Conference games. The Lady Arrows dropped a tough 8-7 decision against Indian Creek on Tuesday before bouncing back with a 5-3 win at North Putnam.

In the win against North Putnam, Vandeventer homered at the plate and struck out a career-high 12 batters to notch the win.

Wiltermood had two hits and two RBI while freshman Hallie Howard had a pair of singles.

Vandevender homered, doubled and drove in a pair of runs in the loss against Indian Creek.

Howard, Kate Alsman and Eslinger also all doubled in the loss.

Sullivan takes a 7-4 record into Monday’s game at North Knox.

Terre Haute North 13, Shakamak 3 (5): Ava Landry singled home Madelyn Kennett in the top of the first inning but the Class 4A Patriots scored 13 unanswered for the win.

Kennett also homered in the loss.

The setback on Friday capped a busy week as the Lady Lakers played four games in total.

Following a 15-4 loss to 1A powerhouse Clay City, Shakamak bounced back with its second win of the season in a 12-10 victory over Washington.

The Lakers scored six in the home half of the second inning for an 8-0 lead before needing three runs in the last of the sixth to regain momentum and a 12-8 lead heading to the seventh.

Eight different Lakers recorded a hit in the win, with Jama Ewers recording a pair and had two RBI.

Peyton Gambill added a triple and knocked in two runs while Ayana Clark, Clara Barber, Emma Wolfe, Ava Landry and Brylee Wilson all were credited with an RBI in the win.
