For the second straight weekend, the Shakamak volleyball team took part in a different version of Friday Night Lights.

On a night usually reserved for football, the Lady Lakers traveled to Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference foe White River Valley.

And for the second straight Friday, Shakamak came out on top in a conference clash.

The Lakers improved to 8-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 win.

“It feels great to say we are 4-0 in conference play,” an excited Lakers’ coach Emeral Goff said. “The girls continue to play great and are off to a great start to the season.”

Kolette Slough and freshman Brylee Faulk led the offensive attack Friday night. Slough registered a team-best 11 kills on the night while Faulk put away seven shots at the net.

Jordyn Boram (4), Ayanna Clark (4) and Madelyn Kennett (3) combined for 11 kills in the win.

Goff noted it was great to get another conference win, but noted the team needs to do a better job of playing complete matches.

“We played like a roller coaster and we have to stop playing that way,” the coach stated. “We gave too many free points to WRV tonight by missing serves and our hitters not finding the court.”

In Tuesday’s loss against Edgewood, the Lakers struggled on serve-receive. Goff noted that part of the Lakers’ game on Friday was much improved.

“Our serve-receive was great tonight,” Goff said. “We only had one error and our defense was moving so much better tonight than against Edgewood.”

Jaedyn Boram and Emma Yeryar led the Lakers in digs on the night with 18 and 16, respectively. Jama Ewers (7) and Faulk (6) combined to prevent 13 shots from hitting the court.

Ewers also handed out 15 assists in the win while Jaedyn Boram added eight helpers.

Yeryar and Jaedyn Boram tied for team honors with three aces apiece, while Jordyn Boram led the way at the net on the defensive side with five total blocks. Slough finished with four total stuffs on the night.

The Lakers junior varsity team also picked up a win on Friday to remain undefeated overall on the season.

Shakamak (8-3) returns to the court Thursday, hosting North Knox. Thursday’s match will also be Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Night. Shakamak player Bralyn Calvery is battling diabetes.

“We hope that we have a great crowd (on Thursday) to help support one of our own,” Goff said.
