Local Baseball Roundup: Lakers and Warriors drop heartbreakers; Arrows fall

Terre Haute South 3, Shakamak 2: The Class 4A Braves scored twice in the top of the seventh inning for the comeback win on Tuesday.

 

A single, hit batter and fielding error loaded the bases in the seventh and the Braves made the hosts pay in the final frame.

 

Ian Samm gave the Lakers an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the home half of the first inning, scoring Riley Huckaby on the play.

 

South pulled even with an unearned run in the third and the same remained knotted until the sixth when Linden Jenkins singled home Jalen Johnson for a 2-1 lead.

 

After the Braves went ahead in the seventh, Shakamak went down in order to end the game.

 

Dolton Fiscus and Madden Husband added singles in the loss.

 

Samm tossed the first five innings and received a no-decision on the mound. The strong righthander allowed just two hits and fanned three batters. 

 

The loss dropped the Class 1A No. 7 Lakers to 9-6 on the year.

 

 

 

North Daviess 2, North Knox 1: The Class 1A No. 6 ranked Cougars scored single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings to halt the Warriors’ upset bid.

 

North Daviess tied the game with an RBI groundout in the last of the sixth, before a single and throwing error led to the walk-off win the following inning.

 

Eli Elkins gave North Knox a 1-0 lead with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the fifth. Rylan Oxby reached base after being hit by a pitch with one out and moved up to second on a groundout before scoring on Elkins’ knock.

 

North Knox had a pair of runners on in the sixth inning with just one out, but a double play ended the threat.

 

Levi Pahmeier was the tough-luck loser, tossing a complete game and scattered just five hits.

 

Kaleb Archer and Pahmeier recorded the only other two hits for the Warriors.

 

North Knox fell to 4-10 on the year.

 

 

 

Northview 13, Sullivan 4: The visiting Knights put the hosts in a 6-0 hole in the first inning and never looked back.

 

Northview lined a double and a single on the first two offerings of the game en route to the 6-run opening inning.

 

The Arrows got on the board in the home half of the inning when Isaak Osborne singled to lead off the frame and later scored on a wild pitch.

 

After falling behind 10-1, Sullivan pushed across a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Ty Hamilton singled home Hunter Mason before Spencer Hanks hit a sacrifice fly to left. 

 

Hunter Mason started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double off the bat of Jaden Norris.

 

The Arrows’ final tally of the game came in the seventh when Hamilton worked a bases-loaded walk with two outs.

 

The loss to its Western Indiana Conference rivals, dropped Sullivan’s record to 7-8 overall on the year.
