BOYS BASKETBALL
SULLIVAN 47, Shakamak 36: The Arrows avoided a second straight loss with a big fourth quarter in Saturday night’s road win. Sullivan outscored the Lakers 14-2 over the final eight minutes of play to overcome a 1-point deficit.
Carter Mischler scored all six of his points in the fourth quarter to help the Arrows improve to 2-1 on the season.
After trailing by nine points heading into the second stanza, Shakamak outscored the Arrows 29-19 in the middle frames. The Lakers carried a 34-33 lead into the final frame by outscoring Sullivan 14-8 in the third.
Paul Ridgway paced Sullivan with a game-high 20 points with half coming in the opening quarter.
Cooper Bock added 13 points in the win and was the only other Sulivan player to reach double figures.
Carson Granby, who recorded eight 3-points in Friday night’s loss to Northview, was limited to just five points Saturday. Sam Fathauer rounded out the scoring for the Arrows with three points.
Linden Jenkins scored 10 of his team-best 12 points in the first half while Jaden Johnson (10) and Madden Husband (8) combined for 18 points for the hosts.
Ian Samm and Jalen Johnson rounded out the scoring with four points apiece. Samm accounted for the Lakers’ only bucket in the fourth.
The Arrows missed 7 of 9 attempts from the charity stripe while the Lakers finished 6 of 11 on freebies.
Saturday’s loss was the second straight for Shakamak after dropping a 71-57 decision against Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference rival Bloomfield on Friday night.

NORTH CENTRAL 51, White River Valley 46: The Thunderbirds overcame a slow start to earn a conference win Saturday night in their home opener. The visiting Wolverines led by as many as 17 points and carried a 22-8 advantage into the second quarter before the T-Birds started to chip away.
North Central got back into the game by outscoring WRV 14-4 in the second period before adding 14 more in the third and winning the fourth stanza by a count of 15-9.
“Ugly and not sure we deserved to win this one,” first-year T-Birds’ head coach Seth Harrold said of the game. “We got a little anxious because they tried to slow us down and did a good job of controlling tempo. But I am proud of these guys for finding a way to pull it out.”
With the win, North Central improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in SWIAC play.
Ethan Willis led a trio of Thunderbirds in double figures with 19 points. The dynamic senior, who is gaining interest from college programs, tallied 14 points after intermission.
Trashaun Cockrell (15) and Tyson Hardin (11) combined for 26 points in the win. DJ Suggs and Brennen Robertson rounded out the scoring with six points as Suggs scored four.
North Central travels to conference foe North Daviess on Friday night.
South Knox 68, North Knox 51: Despite a game-high 23 points from senior Braxton Yenne, the Warriors fell to 0-3 on the season.
The host Spartans outscored their county rivals in each of the first three periods including a 20-8 advantage in the opening frame Friday night.
North Knox did finish the game on a strong note, posting 22 points over the final eight minutes of play and outscoring the hosts by 15 points.
Yenne swished home six 3-pointers in part of his big night. The game marked the second 20-point explosion of the season for the senior guard.
Cole Kerns joined his classmate in double figures with 14 points in the loss.
Rylan Oxby added seven points while Eli Elkins, Lane Adams and Kyson Parker all scored two points. Will Trabant added one free throw in the loss.
North Knox (0-3) plays host to Shakamak Friday night before hosting SWIAC foe Eastern Greene on Saturday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Rock Creek Academy 38, Dugger Union 36 (OT): The visiting Bulldogs could hold onto a fourth-quarter lead Saturday afternoon in falling to 2-5 on the season. RCA outscored the Bulldogs 11-8 in the fourth frame before winning the overtime session 5-3.
Jordyn Smith netted a game-high 16 points
Jalee Brumbarger added eight points in the loss while Sage Stahl chipped in with seven.
Arianna Frazee (3) and Kera Schaefer (2) rounded out the scoring with five points.
Dugger Union missed 8 of 20 shots from the charity stripe.
Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs dropped a 58-37 decision to Eastern Greene.
Smith finished one rebound shy of posting a double-double with a 20-point performance in the loss. The senior guard also dished out five assists and came away with a pair of steals.
Stahl recorded her second 20-rebound effort of the season, pulling down 20 boards to go along with six points.
Freshman Cori Pearison also had a big night on the glass, securing a career-best 12 rebounds.
Frazee added three points, three assists and two steals in the loss while Brumbarger finished with six points.
Dugger Union (2-5) travels to North Vermillion on Saturday in part of a girls/boys varsity double header.
The Bulldog boys team is 0-3 on the season after a 55-14 loss to White River Valley and 86-34 defeat against Rock Creek Academy last week.
No other information was provided on the boys program.
