GIRLS BASKETBALL

 

Indian Creek 55, Sullivan 41: The Braves sent their Western Indiana Conference rivals to a third-straight loss Saturday afternoon.

 

After closing to within 30-28 heading into the final eight minutes of play, the Lady Arrows’ defense could not contain IC as the Braves erupted for 25 points in the final frame to pull away.

 

Like she has done most of the season, Rigley Goodman paced Sullivan. The talented freshman poured in a game-high 17 points, including 11 in the second half, in the loss.

 

Averi Kelley scored six in the third to help the Arrows to a 13-9 advantage in the frame and tallied 10 for the game.

 

Ally McKinney (8) and Jacie Wilson (7) combined for seven points in the loss.

 

Things do not get any easier for the Arrows as they welcome Class 2A No. 1 ranked South Knox on Wednesday before returning to conference play against Northview on Friday. 

 

Friday’s WIC tilt is part of a girls/boys varsity double header with the Lady Arrows tipping off at 6 p.m.

 

NORTH KNOX 58, Evansville Christian 43: After a slow start, the 2A No. 3 ranked Lady Warriors picked up their sixth straight win. North Knox overcame an early 5-point deficit in the first quarter in improving to 6-1 on the season.

 

Alex McKinley poured in a game-high 22 points to pace the Warriors.

 

Baylee McClure and Brynna Collins also reached double figures in the scoring column with 11 and 10 points, respectively. McClure added five rebounds, two assists and came up with a team-high four steals in the win.

 

Collins dished out seven assists in addition to pulling down six rebounds.

 

Miller LeRoy (7), Brooklyn Sturgeon (5) and Jade Richter (3) rounded out the scoring in the win with a combined 15 points. 

 

Richter (8) and Sturgeon (6) combined for 14 rebounds.

 

As a team, North Knox came away with 13 steals.

 

The Warriors have a big week ahead, hosting Class 4A Bedford North Lawrence on Monday and then hosting 2A No. 1 ranked South Knox on Saturday.

 

 

NORTH CENTRAL 65, Eastern Greene 24: Playing its first game as the No. 1 ranked Class 1A team in the state for the first time in school history, the Ladybirds had no problem remaining undefeated on the season.

 

North Central scored 18 points in each of the first two quarters in building a 20-point lead at the half. The Ladybirds kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third quarter and put the game away with a 27-0 shutout in the third frame.

 

For the seventh time in as many games, Jalyn Davidson notched a 20-point performance. The Ladybird senior netted a game-high 28 points in the win.

 

Hannah Stepp knocked down four shots from distance in part of her 19-point effort.

 

Shelby Seay gave the Ladybirds a third player in double figures, scoring 13 points while Samantha Secrest (4) and Maycie Dreiman (1) rounded out the scoring with five points.

 

North Central (7-0) plays host to conference rival Bloomfield on Tuesday.

 

 

SHAKAMAK 45, Bloomfield 33: The Lakers bounced back from their first loss of the season with a conference road win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

 

SHAKAMAK 64, Vincennes Rivet 28: The Lakers opened up the season Saturday night with a lopsided non-conference win on their home court.

 

Jaden Johnson poured in a career-high 25 points to pace the Lakers while younger brother Jalen Johnson stuffed the statsheet with 10 points, seven assists and came up with six steals.

 

Nine different Shakamak players found their way into the scoring column.

 

Shakamak travels to Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference rival Bloomfield on Friday before hosting Sullivan on Saturday. 

 

 

SULLIVAN 46, South Knox 36: In a rematch of last season’s Class 2A Sectional Championship game, the host Arrows once again came out on top in the season opener for both teams.

 

The win gave Sullivan coach Jeff Moore the 532nd win of his career on the day where it was announced he would be part of the 2025 Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

 

Sullivan held a slim 8-7 lead after the first eight minutes of play and carried a 21-17 advantage into the locker room at the break. The Arrows added some distance with an 11-6 edge in the third quarter before holding the Spartans at bay in the fourth.

 

Cooper Bock paced the hosts with a game-high 18 points for the only Sullivan play to reach double figures.

 

Sam Fathauer added eight points in the win while sophomore Paul Ridgway netted seven points in his first varsity start.

 

Carson Granby (6), Aidan McCammon (4) and Carter Mischler (3) combined for 13 points for the Arrows.

 

Sam Singleton led the Spartans with 12 points.

 

Sullivan (1-0) plays host to Western Indiana Conference rival Northview on Friday.

 

 

NORTH CENTRAL 53, Eastern Greene 42: The visiting Thunderbirds made Seth Harrold a winner in his varsity coaching debut.

Trashaun Cockrell and Ethan Willis led North Central with 11 points apiece while Tyson Hardin added 10 points in the win.

 

 

Shoals 67, Dugger Union 15: The visiting Jugrox handed the Bulldogs a home loss in the coaching debut of Darrell Pruitt.
