DUGGER UNION 42, Red Hill (Ill.) 35: Less than 24 hours after dropping a close conference game at home, the Bulldogs flipped the script Tuesday night against another Little Okaw Valley Conference opponent.
Dugger Union improved to 2-2 on the season with the road win.
Like she has done most of the season, Jordyn Smith paced the Bulldogs. The senior guard netted 16 points in the win.
Dugger Union jumped out to an 11-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play before taking a 23-18 advantage into the locker room at the break.
Although the offense stalled in the third period, scoring just six points, the Bulldogs still managed to increase their lead by four points.
Arianna Frazee joined Smith in double figures with a season-high 10 points.
Cori Pearison chipped in a career-best eight points, while Sage Stahl and Jalee Brumbarger rounded out the Bulldogs’ scoring with four points apiece.
The win followed a tough 42-34 setback against Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville on Monday.
Stahl turned in a monster double-double with a 16-point, 21-rebound performance in the loss.
Smith added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 8 steals while Pearison (8) and Frazee (6) combined for 14 boards.
OPH outscored the Bulldogs in all four quarters thanks in large part to a 7 for 18 shooting display from the charity stripe.
NORTH KNOX 85, Washington Catholic 4: Five different Lady Warriors reached double figures in Monday night’s rout.
North Knox outscored the hosts 26-0 after the first eight minutes of play and never looked back.
The Cardinals scored all four of their points in the second frame.
The Warriors scored 27 in the second to carry a commanding 53-4 lead into the break.
Brynna Collins led the way with a game-high 22 points including 11 in the second period. Jade Richter (17), Cabella Lemberg (11), Millee LeRoy (10) and Alex McKinley (10) all joined Collins in double figures.
Roselyn Armes (6), Baylee McClure (5) and Brooklyn Sturgeon (4) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors with 15 points.
North Knox, ranked No. 3 in the latest Class 2A state polls, improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Blue Chip Conference play and return home to face Vincennes Rivet on Thursday.
NORTH CENTRAL 69, Greencastle 28: For the fifth straight game to start the season, the Class 1A No. 4 ranked Ladybirds came away with a convincing victory.
North Central outscored the hosts 26-11 after the first eight minutes of play to set the tone.
A 22-6 advantage in the second frame gave the Ladybirds a 48-17 lead at the break.
Jalyn Davidson continued her offensive tear to start the season. The dynamic senior guard tallied a game-high 26 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 8 assists. It was the fifth 20-point explosion of the season as she is averaging 24 points per night.
Shelby Seay also stuffed the statsheet on Monday, adding 18 points, 9 steals, 7 assists and 4 rebounds in the win.
Hannah Stepp was a third Ladybird to reach double figures, adding 12 points on 4 of 7 on shots from behind the arc.
Samantha Secrest finished one point shy of reaching double figures, while Shelby Shattuck and Maycie Dreiman rounded out the scoring with two points apiece. Shattuck, who scored her first points of the season, also added two rebounds and dished out an assist.
SHAKAMAK 41, Clay City 19: The Lady Lakers improved to 3-0 on the season with the road win Tuesday night.
Shakamak got off to a slow start, leading 5-3 after the first eight minutes of play, but took control of the game with a 14-0 advantage in the second.
After the Eels gained a 10-9 scoring lead in the third, the Lakers finished off the game with a 13-6 edge over the final eight minutes of play.
Sophomore Mattilyn Hill netted a career-high 13 points to pace a balanced scoring attack for Shakamak.
Layni Stone and Madelyn Kennett added eight points apiece, while Blanca Hernandez (7) and Chase Hammond (5) combined for 12 points in the win.
Shakamak remains in Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference play, hosting White River Valley on Saturday.
