SHAKAMAK 5, South Vermillion 4: The Lady Lakers erased an early 3-0 deficit Friday evening for a come-from-behind road win.

Mattilyn Hill started the Lakers’ comeback with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the third inning. Ayanna Clark hit a sacrifice fly on the next pitch, pulling Shakamak to within 3-2.

In the fourth inning, Madelyn Kennett gave the Lakers their first lead of the game with a two-run homer and a 4-3 lead. Adelyse Varner singled with two outs, ahead of Kennett’s third blast of the season.

The Wildcats pulled even in the home half of the fourth on a single and an error.

But the Lady Lakers once again answered in the fifth.

A walk to Clark was sandwiched between Hill and Clara Barber being hit by pitches, to load the bases. Abbi Gilbert then delivered the game-winning RBI single to right on a 2-2 count.

South Vermillion put  the tying and go-ahead runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but freshman Brylee Wilson got out of both jams. Wilson went the distance in the circle for the win.

Kennett, Hill, and Varner all collected two hits in the win.

Terre Haute North 13, North Central 7: Playing against their second straight Class 4A team, the Ladybirds fell short against the host Patriots.

North Central trailed 7-2 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but mounted a two-out rally to pull even.

Brynn Varner and Lilly Gaines recorded back-to-back RBI singles for the first two runs of the frame. Two batters later, Hayden Crooks followed with an infield single to score Gaines. On a 2-2 count, Olivia Rehmel pulled the Ladybirds even with a 2-run single to right. Crooks stole second base on the previous pitch.

But the Patriots had a two-out rally of their own. North scored six in the last of the sixth inning — all with two outs — capped by a grand slam by freshman Kenzie Zigler.

Varner, Kaylynn Dreiman, Crooks and Rehmel all collected two hits in the loss.

The Ladybirds were without senior ace pitcher Mykenzie Wence for the game.

Lawrenceville 10, Dugger Union 2: The Bulldogs fell to 2-7 on the season with the Little Okaw Valley Conference loss.

Brae Simpson pulled Dugger Union to within 2-1 with an RBI double in the top of the fourth. Emily Neff, who started the inning with a two-bagger, scored on the play.

The Indians answered back with three runs in the home half of the frame.

Simpson scored the Bulldogs’ final tally of the game on a fielding error off the bat of Jordyn Smith in the sixth inning.

Sage Stahl recorded a triple while Kylie Gerig and Jalee Brumbarger added singles in the loss.

North Daviess 9, North Knox 2: The host Cougars scored the final eight runs of the game in sending the Warriors to a non-conference loss.

Reagan Jones lined a 2-run single, giving North Knox a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Ellie Allen and Graci LeRoy both scored on the hit.

But four hits in the home half of the second frame allowed North Daviess to push across four runs and it would not relinquish the lead.

Mattilynn Ashley recorded two hits in the loss for the Warriors, while Ally Crist and freshman Jonna Myers added singles.
