Football

 

2A No. 6 Linton-Stockton 14, Sullivan 12: For the second straight game, the Miners broke the hearts of the Golden Arrows with a late rally.

 

Linton-Stockton erased a 12-6 fourth-quarter deficit with eight points in the final three minutes Friday night for its sixth straight win in the series.

 

The eight fourth-quarter points came from sophomore Paul Oliver. Punting out of its own end zone, Sullivan had a punt blocked by Oliver for a safety. Moments later, the Miner quarterback bullied his way into the end zone for the game-winning score.

 

The Arrows had one final drive to try to send their purple and gold faithful home with a homecoming win, but a fourth-down pass near midfield was dropped.

 

James Propes returned a punt for a touchdown late in the first half to pull the Arrows even at halftime.

 

Sophomore quarterback Blake Fraker gave the hosts a 12-6 lead in the third quarter with a keeper from the 1-yardline.

 

The Arrows forced the Miners into three turnovers in the game, but could not take advantage of the extra possessions.

 

Sullivan (2-2) hits the road for its next three games starting with a Western Indiana Conference tilt at Greencastle in Week 5.

 

 

Red Hill (Ill.) 26, North Central 6: The turnover bug once again bit the Thunderbirds. North Central turned the ball over five times in the home loss on Saturday afternoon.

 

Lane Hargis scored the only touchdown in the loss for the hosts on a 66-yard rush. The North Central running back led the team in rushing with 107 yards on just eight totes in the loss.

 

As a team, the T-Birds rushed 35 times for 192 yards.

 

North Central (1-3) travels to North Knox for its Week 5 matchup.

 

 

Dugger Union 28, Faith Christian 6: The Bulldogs evened their record in the 8-man football league on the season with the romp on Saturday.

 

Dugger Union is now 2-2 on the season.

Cross County

The Sullivan girls cross country team continued their recent success by winning the Washington Invitational on Saturday.

 

The Lady Arrows placed three runners in the Top 10 and edged North Knox by 13 points to claim the team title.

 

Sophomore Rachel Ramirez paced Sullivan by placing fifth overall. Ramirez covered the course with a time of 22 minutes, 58.5 seconds.

 

Senior Kate Ridgway was two spots and 23 seconds behind her teammate while Avari Kelley finished 10th with a time of 23:35.7.

 

Avery Weitekamp (24:11.9) and Emmarie Earley (24:36.8) rounded out the scoring for the Arrows by placing 13th and 17th respectively.

 

Gaige Goodman also placed in the Top 20 with a time of 25:21.5 — good for 20th.

 

Shakamak did not figure into the team standings due to only having four runners. But junior Elayni Stone finished as the top local finisher. Stone ran a season-best time of 21.38.6 to place second overall.

 

Paige Voigtschild of Lawrence County Christian was the meet winner with a time of 20:54.5.

 

In the boys meet, Shakamak placed second in the team standings. Just three days after defeating conference rival Clay City, the Lakers came up 15 points behind the Eels on Saturday.

 

For the second straight meet, senior JT May led the Lakers. May posted a season-best time of 18:16.1 to place fourth overall in the field of 62 runners.

 

Teammates Rayden Rehmel and Aiden Barber also joined May inside the Top 10. Rehmel placed 8th with a time of 18:40.5 while the freshman Barber was two spots and 19 seconds behind.

 

Laker sophomore Jaden Johnson missed a Top-10 finish by one spot while posting a time of 19:03.1. Senior Will Miller rounded out the Lakers’ scoring with a 17th-place finish with a time of 20:04.3.

 

Sullivan placed third in the team standings and was led by senior Ben McKinley’s 18th-place effort. McKinley posted a time of 20:23.6.

 

Jace Camden (21), Keaton Toth (23) and Nick Brooks (24) all placed inside the Top 25, while Kaden Helms rounded out the Arrows’ scoring by finishing in 27th.

 

Washington’s Brody Wilson was the meet winner with a time of 17:26.8.

 

 

Soccer

The Sullivan boys soccer team earned their first win of the season on Saturday. The Arrows knocked off conference foe Brown County, 2-0.

 

Cash Murdock provided the offense with a pair of second half goals. Murdock have the Arrows a 1-0 lead just 60 seconds after intermission before sealing the deal with a corner kick in the 76th minute. 

 

Logan Ketterer earned the shutout as the Arrows’ goalie stoned all seven shots on goal he faced.

 

“It was good to see the guys put it all together,” Arrows’ coach Cody Harrison said. “It was a total team effort and was really enjoyable to watch. Cash had two great goals and I thought all the guys had excellent passing combinations and moved well in space which gave us some scoring opportunities.

“And Logan was great in goal for us.”

 

Sullivan stayed aggressive on offense with 15 shots on goal for the game.

 

The Arrows (1-7-1) host South Knox on Wednesday.

 

No information was reported for the girls contest on Saturday.

 

 

Tennis

Sullivan 3, Indian Creek 2: The Arrows hit the road and knocked off the defending Western Indiana Conference champions on Saturday.

 

The No. 2 doubles team of Sam Couch and Spencer Hanks picked up the match-clinching win.

 

The win moves Sullivan to 13-4 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in league play.

 

The Arrows can wrap up their first conference championship in 22 years with a win over Edgewood on Monday.

 

 

Volleyball

Sullivan 3, Brown County 0: The Lady Arrows bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Northview on Thursday was a sweep of their own on Saturday.

 

The 25-10, 25-23, 25-16 win improved the Arrows’ record to 10-4 overall on the season and 2-2 in Western Indiana Conference play.

 

The Arrows improved to 10-4 on the season with the 25-10, 25-23, 25-16 road win over their conference foe.

 

Sullivan travels to Clay City on Monday.
