Local Sports Roundup: T-Birds compete on links; Lady Warriors win; Thunderbirds, Warriors fall

BOYS GOLF

 

 

Cloverdale 171, West Vigo 179, North Central 200, Linton-Stockton 203: The Thunderbirds placed third in Monday’s quad at Clover Meadows.

 

Like he has done most of the season, Devan Schimmel led North Central with a 9-hole score of 46.

 

Nathan Weir was second on the T-Birds with a round of 49, while Sam Osborn and Will Wells rounded out the scoring for North Central with scores of 52 and 53, respectively.

 

Owen Thacker also played on Monday but his round of 55 did not factor into the team score.

 

Cloverdale’s Eli Kelley was the match medalist with a round 39.

 

North Central’s match at North Knox was canceled due to rain.

 

 

 

 

BASEBALL

 

 

Cloverdale 7, North Central 6: Hayden Schultz tripled home two runs in the last of the seventh inning but the T-Birds’ rally came up short in Monday’s non-conference contest. 

 

The T-Birds erased a 3-0 hole by scoring four runs in the last of the third inning.

 

Malakai Urbain put the hosts on the board with a sacrifice fly before a second run raced home on a fielding error off the bat of Greydyn Walters. 

 

After a double by Schultz, senior Ian Ladson gave the T-Birds a 4-3 lead with a two-run double of his own.

 

The Clovers pulled even with a single tally in the fifth before taking a 7-4 lead with three in the top of the sixth.

 

Schultz, Ladson and Lane Phegley all had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

 

The T-Birds’ home game on Tuesday against North Daviess has been postponed until Thursday.

 

 

 

South Knox 14, North Knox 2 (5): The visiting Spartans scored 13 runs over the third and fourth innings, including an 8-spot in the third, in Monday’s Blue Chip Conference win.

 

After South Knox scored a single tally in the top of the first inning, the Warriors answered back with two in the bottom of the frame. 

 

Korbin Jones and Rylan Oxby worked bases-loaded free passes to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

 

The Warriors left the bases loaded to end the inning.

 

North Knox also stranded two runners on base in the third and fifth innings.

 

Kaleb Archer, Jones and Will Arnold all recorded singles in the loss.

 

 

 

SOFTBALL

 

 

NORTH KNOX 14, Washington 4 (6): A seven-run fourth inning highlighted the Lady Warriors romp over the Hatches on Monday.

 

North Knox entered the fourth trailing 4-3, but a double by Ally Crist pulled the Warriors even. Javen Miller broke the tie with a 2-run single before Delani Pryor made it 7-4 with an RBI single. Baylee McClure capped the fourth with an RBI triple for a 10-4 lead.

 

Graci LeRoy ripped a 2-run double for a 12-4 lead and a sacrifice fly by Pryor made it 13-4.

 

Crist accounted for the final tally with an RBI groundout in the sixth which brought the mercy rule into play.

 

McClure finished with two triples out of the lead-off spot, while Malli Lyons had a single and scored three runs.

 

Crist went the distance in the circle and fanned four batters.

 

North Knox improved to 10-8 on the season.
