Sometimes you just have to turn the page and move to the next.
That is what the Shakamak volleyball team plans to do after Tuesday night.
The Lakers suffered just their third setback of the season when visiting Edgewood proved to be too tall of a task.
With a significant height advantage, the Mustangs sent the Lakers to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 loss.
Shakamak entered the match winners in seven of its previous eight matches.
“Edgewood had a tall middle and strong hitters all across the front that really hurt us tonight,” Shakamak coach Emeral Goff noted. “We started out strong and had a good lead in the first set, but once they got their hitters going, we struggled.”
Edgewood also gave the Lakers fits off the serve. The Mustangs served up 14 aces in the match.
“Passing is so crucial to your success and we just had a rare off night on defense and serve-receive,” the Lakers’ coach said. “We just seemed to be moving too slow and balls that usually don’t fall, we let fall. But we will take what we learned from this match to help us build for the next.”
Sophomore Ayanna Clark continued her recent surge in play at the net for the Lakers. Clark tied Jordyn Boram for team honors in kills with five during the loss. The sophomore also stuffed a pair of shots.
Kolette Slough (4) and Adelyse Varner (2) combined for six putaways in the match.
Jama Ewers handed out nine assists while Jaedyn Boram passed out six.
Freshman Brylee Faulk led the Lakers with 12 digs and senior Emma Yeryar prevented 11 shots from hitting the court.
Jaedyn Boram led the team with three aces while Slough stuffed four shots.
Sophomore Madelyn Kennett added two digs and a block.
Shakamak (7-3) looks to keep its undefeated conference record intact when the Lakers travel to White River Valley for a Friday night Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference contest.
Shakmak defeated the Wolverines earlier in the season at the Eastern Greene Round Robin.
