FARMERSBURG — During the monthly Northeast School Corporation board meeting Monday night, two new high school varsity coaches were approved.
Nick Wheeler was approved to take over the North Central head football coaching position, while Anna Orsburn received approval as the new Ladybirds volleyball coach.
Wheeler will take over the reins of the football program after Joe Kutch decided to retire from coaching this past winter.
Orsburn replaces Mia McCoskey who resigned after this past season.
Wheeler is a Rockville High School and Anderson University graduate and has spent the last three seasons as the assistant head coach at South Putnam.
“I am really excited to join the Thunderbird family,” Wheeler said on Tuesday. “There’s a lot of tradition here in the football program and I am hoping to bring a little bit of that back here in the next couple of years.”
After winning the school’s second sectional championship in 202 — led by Kutch — the T-Birds are just 3-16 in the last two seasons. Injuries played a major role in the last two years.
Orsburn is a 2016 NC graduate and also graduated from Oakland City University. This past fall, Orsburn spent the volleyball season on the bench as the Ladybirds junior varsity coach.
North Central finished the year with an 11-19 record and will graduate four seniors.
Orsburn, who is also an assistant coach for the Ladybirds’ softball team, said she is happy to remain with the program.
“This place (North Central) is such a special place to me,” she said. “I love the North Central green and all of the people here.”
NOTE: Full stories on both coaches will be published at a later date.
