The Sullivan girls basketball team hit the road for the second time in as many games Saturday evening.

And for the second time the Lady Arrows came away with a gritty win.

Sullivan improved to 2-0 on the season with a 45-34 win over White River Valley.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Lady Arrows turned up the defensive pressure over the final 16 minutes of play to create some separation. The Sullivan defense limited the hosts to just three made field goals in the second half.

Sullivan carried a slim 25-22 advantage into the locker room at the break. But the Wolverines could not find the bottom of the net in the third quarter scoring only four shots from the charity stripe. The 11-4 advantage in the third, gave the Lady Arrows a 10-point cushion heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Freshman sensation Rigley Goodman buried a pair of shots from distance in the third to help the Arrows stretch their lead. Avari Kelley also connected on a shot from 3-point range in the stanza.

Goodman added another triple in the fourth as she finished with a game-high 16 points in the win. The freshman has tallied game-high point totals in both games to start the season after pouring in 21 points in the Lady Arrows season-opening win at Vincennes Lincoln. She also swiped three steals Saturday night.

Jacie Wilson finished two points shy of a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds in the win Katherine Sarver (7) and Kelley (6) combined for 13 points while Destiny Gaines and Ally McKinney both chipped in with four points to round out the scoring.

McKinney also pulled down six boards from her guard positions and came up with five steals.

The Arrows knocked down six shots from behind the arc and finished 9 of 15 from the free-throw line.

White River Valley was led by Brynna Walton’s nine points while Reese Graves and Izzy Avila both netted eight points in the loss.

Sullivan (2-0) plays host to Bloomfield in its home opener Tuesday night.
