ST. LOUIS – Indiana State volleyball student-athlete Asia Povlin was announced as the Sycamores’ State Farm Good Neighbor Award recipient Thursday by MVC Commissioner Jeff Jackson.
Povlin, a senior defensive specialist for the Sycamores, appeared in 22 sets across 10 matches this season and set her single-season highs in aces (three) and digs (35) in 2023. She recorded four or more digs in five matches this season, including a career-best nine against Murray State. For her career, Povlin appeared in 56 sets across 28 matches and had 43 digs, seven aces and four assists.
In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Povlin has a 3.77 GPA as a nursing major and was a direct admit into Indiana State’s nursing program. She has been a Dean’s List honoree every semester since Fall 2020.
Povlin also founded Sycamore Solace, Indiana State’s student-athlete mental health program and has been a leader of ISU’s Mental Health Matters campaign with the university’s Student Government Association. She is also a member of Indiana State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In order to be eligible for the State Farm Good Neighbor Award, student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 12 student-athletes three times annually (Fall, Winter, Spring), for a total of 36 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
