SULLIVAN 3, Owen Valley 0: With Tuesday night’s sweep over their Western Indiana Conference rival, the Lady Arrows picked up a season-best fourth straight win.
Not only was the 25-15, 25-9, 25-10 win done in dominating fashion, it was also a milestone night for a pair of Sullivan players.
Senior Jacie Wilson reached the 1,000-kills club while sophomore Rachel Eslinger surpassed 1,000 assists in her young career.
Wilson entered the match needing just seven kills to reach the milestone mark. She finished the match putting away 20 shots.
Eslinger was 30 helpers shy of reaching her mark and finished with 10 more than needed.
Isabelle Harris (9) and Destiny Gaines (5) combined for 14 kills in Tuesday’s win while Kensley Wiltermood led the defense with 10 digs.
Tuesday’s lopsided win followed another dominating performance the night before. The Lady Arrows disposed of WIC opponent Owen Valley 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 on Monday.
Wilson put away 20 shots, while Gaines (7), Harris (5), Izzie Jenkins (5) and Eslinger (4) combined for 21 kills.
Jaylen McCammon served up a team-best four aces and Eslinger handed out 37 more assists.
Wiltermood (12) and Jenkins (10) both reached double digits in digs.
With the two wins, Sullivan improved to 13-6 overall while evening its conference mark at 4-4 on the year.
The Lady Arrows played host to county rival North Central Thursday night in the annual King of the Court Night.
SHAKAMAK 3, Lighthouse Christian 1: The Lakers started the week with a 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-13 win on the road Tuesday.
With the non-conference win, Shakamak improved to 14-5 overall on the season.
Despite the win, Lakers’ coach Emeral Goff mentioned her team was tested.
“They (LCA) havd a couple of strong middles and it hurt our defense,” the coach said. “But once we picked up our defense and understood where they were going, we looked a lot better. Our blocking picked up which helped a lot too.”
On the Lakers’ attack, Brylee Faulk (13) and Ayanna Clark (11) combined to put away 24 shots while Bralyn Calvert and Madelyn Kennett finished with seven kills apiece.
Handing out the majority of the assists to the hitters was Jama Ewers. The senior finished with 23 helpers in the win.
Peyton Gambill led the defense with a team-best 23 digs, while Faulk (18), Kennett (15) and Ewers (7) combined to prevent 40 shots from hitting the court.
Kennett also served up eight of the Lakers’ 12 aces from the service line.
Shakamak remained on the road, as it traveled to West Vigo on Thursday.
Linton-Stockton 3, North Central 0: The Ladybirds ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the Lady Miners Monday night with a 25-6, 25-6, 25-12 setback.
Maycie Dreiman recorded four kills in the loss, while Hayden Crooks (6) and Sam Secrest (5) combined for 11 digs.
The loss dropped North Central to 2-14 on the season.
“It was a rough match for us,” first-year Ladybirds’ coach Anna Orsburn said. “But it shows us things that we still need to work on as we try and find the best rotation.”
The Ladybirds traveled to Sullivan on Thursday for the Arrows’ annual King of the Court Night.
Oblong 3, Dugger Union 0: The Bulldogs fell to 3-16 on the year with the 25-18, 25-13, 25-12 loss to their Little Okaw Valley Conference rivals.
Hillary Flores and Caitlynne Henico put away a trio of shots apiece on the offensive attack while Sage Stahl and Arianna Frazee finished with two kills apiece in the loss.
Jalee Brumbarger served up four aces in addition to handing out 11 assists.
Jordyn Smith led the Bulldogs with 19 digs.
On Monday, the Bulldogs dropped a 25-20, 25-16 loss across state lines at Lawrenceville (Ill).
Freshman Izzy Cole led the attack with four kills and Stahl added two.
Brumbarger passed out seven assists while Smith (6), Cole (5), Flores (4) and Henico (4) combined for 19 digs.
Dugger Union played host to Martinsville (Ill.) on Thursday.
