The North Knox boys golf team was handed a goal for Tuesday’s season-opening match at High Pointe Country Club. The Warriors did not exceed the goal, but their collective team score of 180 matched what head coach Brent Noonan wanted to see from his team.
With the score on a windy and rainy day, North Knox placed second in the quad against Lighthouse Christian Academy, North Daviess and White River Valley.
The Cougars finished seven strokes better than North Knox, while LCA was a distance third with a score of 247. The Wolverines only had three golfers and did not factor into the team score.
“We had the goal of breaking 180 and that is the number we ended up shooting,” Noonan said. “Overall, I was pleased with our first competition of the year.”
The Warriors were paced by Hunter Noonan’s personal-best round of 40. The score was one stroke shy of North Daviess’ Nick Fine for medalist honors. Noonan recorded five pars as part of his 9-hole round.
Kaden Boyles was three shots off Noonan’s pace, while Yogie Cardinal and Blake Goodwin rounded out the Warriors’ scoring with rounds of 46 and 51, respectively.
Corben Peach (55) and Braxton Thompson (62) also competed but did not have their scores factor into the team scoring.
White River Valley’s Jake Antibus led the Wolverines with a 40, while LCA’s lowest score was a 55.
North Knox returns to the links next Thursday hitting the road for a match against Pike Central.
