FOOTBALL

 

Boonville 35, North Knox 6: The visiting Pioneers played the role of spoilers on Friday night, earning the lopsided win on the Warriors’ homecoming.

 

Boonville found the end zone four times in the first half for a commanding 28-0 lead at intermission and scored on its opening possession of the second half to enforce a running clock the rest of the game.

 

Warrior signal caller Brennan Messel ended the shutout with a 10-yard keeper with just under 90 seconds remaining on the game clock.

 

Messel finished the game with a team-high 45 yards on the ground in addition to completing six passes for 33 yards.

 

Aven Saucerman (35) and Lane Adams (26) combined for 61 yards on the ground in the loss.

 

Adams also hauled in four passes for 24 yards.

 

The Pioneer racked up 272 yards on the ground, led by 104 from Tyler Rinehart with  two scores, while Grant Davis added 81 and a touchdown.

 

Boonville also finished with 115 yards through the air.

 

The loss dropped the Warriors to 1-3 on the season, with all four games coming against Class 2A/3A schools. 

 

North Knox travels to Southwest Conference opponent North Central (1-3) for its Week 5 matchup. 

 

 

Tri-State Crusaders 12, Dugger Union 6: For the third straight game, the Bulldogs come up on the short end of a one-possession game.

 

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 0-3 on the 8-man season, while the Crusaders improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

 

No other information was provided. 

 

 

Red Hill (Ill) 29, North Central 22: The Thunderbirds fell to 1-3 on the season with Saturday’s road loss.

 

No other information on the loss was provided. 

 

North Central plays host to North Knox in a Southwest Conference matchup Friday night. 

 

 

 

GIRLS GOLF

 

Barr-Reeve 171, Washington 179, North Daviess 186, North Knox 225: In one final regular season meet on their home course, the Lady Warriors came up short in a quad meet. Sophomore Abby Noland sat out the meet due to being in concussion protocol. Noland has finished as the Warriors’ No. 2 golfer in every meet this season.

 

North Knox’s top golfer, Brooklyn Sturgeon, also came up short in pursuit of her ninth medalist award on the season. The senior carded a 40 on the back nine which was just one shot behind Meah Dalrymple for low score.

 

Callie Meadows finished second on the team with a round of 59, while Brylie Earley and Natalee Rickard rounded out the scoring for the Warriors with scores of 61 and 65, respectively.

 

After the meet, Sturgeon and Meadows were recognized with their senior night.

 

Noland is expected to return to the lineup in time for Friday’s sectional, also held on the Warriors’ home course at High Pointe Golf Course.

 

 

SHAKAMAK 209, Cloverdale 212: Earlier in the week, the Lady Lakers notched another dual-match win at Clover Meadows. The Lady Lakers’ score marked a season-best.

 

Camryn Bryne led the Lakers with a career-best round of 45 which was three strokes off of medalist honors.

 

Adelyse Varner also turned in a career-best round during the match with a score of 55.

 

Chase Hammond finished one stroke better than Varner while the Lakers score was rounded out by a 55 from Aubree Langford.

 

Teagan Diehl (58) and Mattilyn Hill (62) did not have their scores count towards the team total.

 

The Lakers gear up for the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference meet at Phil Harris on Wednesday. 

 

 

 

VOLLEYBALL

 

SULLIVAN 3, Brown County 0: Following a sweep by Northview, the Lady Arrows wrapped up a busy week with a sweep of their own against the Eagles on Saturday, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14. The win was the first Western Indiana Conference victory of the season in four matches.

 

Jacie Wilson continued her dominant play at the net, putting down a match-high 17 kills in the win while Destiny Gaines also reached double digits with 10 kills.

 

Isabelle Harris and Madelyn Reed combined for 13 kills, led by a season-high nine from Harris.

 

Sophomores Rachel Eslinger and Addie Fosdick both put away a trio of shots.

 

Eslinger, who received the IHSAA Champions of High School Sports Award earlier in the week, also handed out 42 assists and recorded 10 digs for a double-double.

 

Avari Kelley led the team in digs with 21, while Jenkins (10), Harris (7) and Jaylen McCammon (5) combined to prevent 22 shots from hitting the court.

 

Gaines added three aces from the service line and Jenkins added two.

 

Sullivan travels to Edgewood on Tuesday for another WIC matchup.

 

 

NORTH CENTRAL 3, Dugger Union 1: The Ladybirds ended an 11-match losing skid with the over county foe Dugger, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22.

 

No stats were provided for North Central.

 

The Bulldogs stayed within striking distance throughout the match with a strong night at the service line. As a team, Dugger served up 18 aces, led by Cole and Jordyn Smith with five apiece.

 

Arianna Frazee (3), Jalee Brumbarger (2) and Kylie Gerig (2) combined for seven aces while Hillary Flores had one.

 

Cole led the Bulldog’ attack at the net with six kills, while Sage Stahl and  Frazee both put away five shots.

 

Smith racked up a season-best 40 digs, while Flores (18), Cole (12) and Gerig (12) combined to keep 42 shots alive.

 

Gerig (10) and Brumbarger (7) ran the Bulldogs’ offense with 17 assists.

 

Dugger Union (2-7) played in the North Vermillion Invite over the weekend but no scores were reported.

 

North Central (1-11) plays host to Paris (Ill.) on Monday.
